Linae Foster on the CRD
Posted by Linae Foster on hordelings.com:
The five CRDs sitting on my desk right now look fabulous (and the aroma of so much plastic is giving me quite a buzz). There are a few things to keep in mind when considering the number of paint ops on this figure:
There is a lot of detail in the sculpt. Some folks like the pose, some do not, but regardless of your opinion on how it is sitting, you have to admit that the quality of the sculpt and detail of it is amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Therein lies the first challenge. You can't inject hot plastic into one mold and expect it to come out looking this good. It's more like 17 separate molds. The pieces are often painted separately prior to assembly. It's not like a black wash is one step over the whole body. It's closer to 17.
Another point to consider is the removable breath weapon. It is painted as well.
Also consider shading. There are multiple shades of red on the figure. What appears to be a black wash in places isn't necessarily so. It's tough to get wash between scales and in the grooves of an accurately sculpted deltiod or latissimus dorsi.
Finally, I'd encourage you to not judge prior to seeing the figure. I've seen multiple positive messages praising the CRD, but for some reason the few negative messages are the ones people want to glom onto. I don't take the negative notes personally because I know this is a quality item. Don't let someone else influence your buying decision - you be your own judge.
Care to comment on why the chest scales arent painted ivory like the other red dragons?
We insisted on a paint step "budget" for the Art Director to maintain. She was at will to determine where they were to apply. I don't like to micromanage so aside from providing a few opinions, I let her do her thing.![]()
