Gen Con news

Posted by War Golem on the maxminis.com forums...

I've just surfed through MaxMinis.com, EN World & GamingReport.com a bit, but not the WotC boards, but so far it looks like I may have a few new scoops for all you DDM fanatics out there. I went through the DDM demo at the WotC booth on Thursday, and my session was run by none other than Rob Heinsoo himself, so I managed to ask him a few scooper questions. I asked him about the Large Uncommon in Aberrations and he revealed it was the Destrachan (I guess neither of us knew at that point that the Preview with this info had been posted that morning). I also asked him if we would see a Beholder in Aberrations, and he told me no, but it was coming and was in fact the cover art for Death Knell. This was confirmed later in one of the 2 DDM seminars I attended, and has since been widely reported on the net.

Here's what I haven't seen posted yet - the guys doing one of the seminars let slip mention of 3 upcoming figures, although not which set, but presumably Aberrations or Death Knell. (Tangent: I noticed that the WotC mini design team guys hardly ever refer to the sets by the actual title; everything they said was always in reference to the set number: "Well, in Set 2 we needed to have lots of CE, and in Set 5 you'll be seeing more blah, blah, blah..."). The upcoming figures are a Celestial Badger, a Trumpet Archon, and some mantis-like monster from the MM.

Another big change they revealed is that the new rules for the game will no longer have Difficult figures. Presumably this means something to you skirmish players, but since I only use the minis for RPG, I wasn't as concerned about this news as some of you folks may be.

Last, but definitely not least, I'm not sure how to post photos to this web site, so I've posted some on mine, including one you won't want to miss of an upcoming mini we're all interested in!
